在早有所在,有二個兄弟仔.
大兄是不止狡怪,小弟是痴呆.
有一日彼二個兄弟仔參商
要激酒的事情.

小弟就問大兄講:
"大家公家要激酒的時候,
 汝是要出甚貨?
 昏我著愛出甚貨?"

大兄就應伊講:
"汝著出米,我要出水."

小弟是戇戇,攏不知天地,
想一時仔,即講:
"像如此生來激酒,
 酒若激好的時候要怎樣分?
 彼亦著講定著較好?"

伊的大兄就講:
"彼是免問亦知知的事,
 我是出水,所以水是應該我得的,
 其餘剩的是汝的額."

伊的小弟㒈㒈講:
"是如此,我沒曉得即問汝的,
 聽汝講如此,今我能曉得,
 如此不止公道."

彼時在邊仔有聽見的人,
聽見此號話,呆一下續無話可講,

[Foolishness beyond description]IDX

Long ago in some place there were two brothers.
The elder brother was very sly while the youger one was foolish.
One day the two brothers were discussing 
about brewing the wine.

The youger brother asked the elder one:
"As we are chipping in to brew the wine,
 what are you going to offer?
 Also what shall I offer?"

The elder brother replied him:
"You should offer the rice, and I will offer the water."

The youger brother was foolish, knowing nothing at all.
Thinking a while, he said:
"(If we) brew the wine in this way,
 when the brewed wine is ready, how do (we) divide it?
 It's better to have it settled (now)."

The elder brother then said:
"This is (apparantly) something well known before (your) asking.
 I offer the water, so the water (of the brewed wine) should belong to me.
 The rest of it is your share."

The youger brother was foolish and said:
"So I see.  I asked you because I didn't know it.
 Hearing you say so, now I know it.
 It's very fair."

At that moment people overhearing (the conversation) on the side,
upon hearing the word, were amazed and got speechless.
Everybody could only look at one another face to face in awe.
