有一個人真慳吝,
看錢恰若性命呢.

有一日,與𢙠後生在行,
行到過港的時,
腳豎沒住,續跌落水裡去,

𢙠後生就著急,大聲喊;
"緊來救人嗬,
 儘採人都若能得可落水去,
 將阮老父救起來,
 我得確大大與伊包謝禮."

伊的老父在水中央亂亂蹓蹓,
出一個頭殼浮起來,
就大聲叫𢙠後生講:
"唉,子啊,不可給伊傷多錢嗬,
 若是三五角銀就可叫伊來救我,
 若要值多錢, 我就給伊溺死亦甘愿,
 免叫伊來救我咯."

[A cheaper life]IDX

There was a very stingy man,
who regarded money as if (his own) life.

One day, (he) walked with his son (in travel).
When crossing the river,
he lost his foot balance and fell into the water.

The son got in panic, and cried out aloud:
"Come to help us quick.
 To anyone who can jump into the water,
 and save my father ashore,
 with certainty I will give him a big gift in return."

The father kicked back and forth in panic in the water.
Managing to keep his head above the water,
he then called out aloud to his son, saying:
"Hey, my son.  Don't give him too much money.
 If it's only three or five silver pennies, then you can send him to save me.
 If he wants more money, I would rather get drowned in satisfaction.
 Don't send him to save me."
