[Roman] | [Chinese] | [Roman] | [Chinese] | [English] [Why don't you respect me?]IDX There was a man with one thousand dollars in hand. One day (he) met a poor man. To tease the man by his own wealth, (the rich man) then said: "I have one thousand dollars. Why don't you respect me?" The poor man then replied: "You have one thousand dollars. But that is yours which has nothing to do with me. It's useless for me to respect you." The rich man further said to him: "If I divide it and give one half to you, can you then respect me?" The poor man then gave an even more clever reply in words: "You have one thousand dollars. You keep five hundred dollars for youself and give five hundred dollars to me. In this way you will be equal with me, (both having) the same amount of money. Why should I respect you?" The rich man then further said: "In that way, if I really give all the one thousand dollars to you, then you should have no reason not to respect me?" The poor man then replied: "(If) I have all your one thousand dollars (in hand), then it should be you who respect me. I shall have less (reason) to respect you."
